Early Christianity

In history, we learned about early christianity. This was a pretty interesting topic for me, and I enjoyed it very much. I will start writing my essay now.

When Jesus was on the earth, he chose 12 men to share the gospel with him. They were called disciples. When Jesus then died, they were known as apostles. Apostles means “one who is sent out”. Although there were 12, we only talked about a few this week, and I will share those with you.

The first we talked about was Simon Peter. I think in the Bible he is referred to as Peter, because there was another disciple named Simon. Peter preached at the pentecost. He was also the ‘leader’ of all the apostles.

The next two we talked about were James and John. They were brothers and both known as ‘sons of thunder’ for their temper. James was the only apostle to have his martyrdom recorded in the Bible, and John outlived the others and died of old age. Both men were inown for their love in sharing their beliefs. Almost all of the apostles were killed because of their belief and because they were spreading the gospel.

The last one we talked about was Paul. Paul was not one of the original 12. He was converted one day after a conversation with God. He went on many missionary trips, and died in a prison. He may have been killed by the king of Rome at that time, Nero.

That was what we learned about early Christianity this week. As I said before, I enjoyed this topic, and I hope you enjoyed reading this paper. Have a fantastic week!!
