Assignment: Pick one of the lessons from this week, and write an essay on it.
This week was the second and last week of the world tour in History. We learned about China, India, Europe, South America, Central America, and North America this week. The one I chose to write my essay about is Europe.
Europe experienced the most change between 500 and 1750 AD. Following the fall of the Roman Empire is when things really started to change. Instead of one big country, city-states began to organize. Those city-states were not very strong at all. Many other things will happen too.
In the last 500 years (which is 500 to 1000 AD), Europe has gone through the dark ages. Their countries have started to get stronger. They have really good kings, but the cities still aren’t stable. France, England, and the Holy Roman Empire (H.R.E.) are the strongest at this time.
In 1200 AD, the colonies resort to fighting each other. I’m not really sure why though. I tried to go back in the lesson to see if he said it, but I didn’t find it. I think it was because no one was strong, so they fought for resources, but that’s just what I think.
In 1453, Europe has weathered the Black Death, the Hundred Years War, and multiple other conflicts with different countries around the world. All of these were very hard on them, but they managed to stay strong and keep going. They eventually cam back from these and were much stronger.
In 1750, Sweeden dramatically expanded, controlling almost all of Scandinavia. The Ottoman Empire is trying to take over Eastern Europe, so Australia has arisen to keep the Ottomans at bay. It is extra hard because the Ottomans are aided by Poland and Russia.
Also in 1750, England, France, Spain, the Netherlands, and Portugal all have vast oversea colonies. This brings increased wealth to each of those continents. Europe continues to dominate world politics for several more centuries, but (spoiler alert) tension starts to raise between European governments, which eventually leads to two world wars.
I Hope you learned something from this essay. Thank you for reading, and have a good day!
