Prompt: There is an old saying, “The squeaky wheel gets the grease.” Simply put, this means that people who make their needs or desires known by making noise–that is, by complaining–are the ones who get what they need or want. But nobody likes a squeaky wheel: the complainer may get what he or she wants, but only at the risk of being perceived unfavorably..
Topic: Should we complain to get what we want?
Have you ever heard the saying: “the squeaky wheel gets the grease”? I am sure you have. This saying means that the people who complain are the ones that get their way or get dealt with. You will find out my opinion on this situation in this essay.
Simply put, I do not think that we should complain to get what we want. I could just leave it at that, but this is supposed to be one to two pages. Not one to two sentences.
I think most of you who are reading this can agree that no one should really complain to get what they want, but the fact is that quite a few people do. This can be frustrating, but there is one reason that people keep complaining. The reason is that is works. Depending on the person you complain to, you get what you wanted. That might just be attention, or it could be that whatever you were complaining about gets fixed. Most of you know that I really like dogs and dog training, and something I’ve learned is that the behavior that gets reinforced keeps happening because they get what they want when they do that behavior. It’s the same with humans in this case.
People are being raised to complain. Maybe not intentionally by their parents, but it’s happening with a lot of kids. The kids wine or complain about something and the parent reinforces that behavior by giving them what they want. This leads to the kids growing up and still doing the same behavior. I going a little off topic here, so let’s get back on track.
People just pay too much attention to the complainers in this world. I’m not saying that we should never fix what they’re complaining about, I’m saying that we need to focus on other people, too. There are people that are upset about things, and are just voicing their opinion. Not complaining about it. These are the people that everyone should be paying attention to. Not the loud squeaky wheel.
In conclusion, I think that too many people complain to get what they want. That should not be the way to get what we want in my opinion, or we’ll have a world full of squeaky wheels.
Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoyed. Have an awesome day!
