3 Ancient Greeks

In History, I’m supposed to write about 3 people that we learned about this week. We’ve been talking about ancient Greece, and this week we talked about the famous philosophers, scientists, and mathematicians. I’m going to write about one of each. I will write about Socrates, Hypatia, and Hippocrates.

Socrates was a philosopher. We don’t have much information directly from Socrates himself, but we do have knowledge from some of his students, and also one of his enemies. He grew up as a stone cutter like his father, but then he became a philosopher. Socrates got married, but by the records we have, it doesn’t look like a happy marriage. He was a great thinker as well. This philosopher was in the army before he became a teacher. His students didn’t pay him, so Socrates was very poor. The questions that Socrates asked got him in trouble, and because of that, one day Socrates was sentenced to death. There is actually a method of thinking called the Socratic method. As you can probably guess, that method was the way Socrates used for his philosophy.

The next person is Hypatia. She was a mathematician, the only female mathematician in Greece that we have record of. She was a professor in Alexandria. On top of her teaching, she wrote books on math. She also made different scientific tools. That’s really all we learned about Hypatia, so on with the next! ; )

The last person I will talk about in this essay is Hippocrates. We didn’t study much about Hippocrates, but I will tell you what I know. He was great at medicine, and he made a rule of standards that we still use today. That is the system of privacy in hospitals.

That is my essay about the three famous ancient greeks. I hope you liked this post, and have a good rest of your day. ; )
